In the month of July, yet another cancer detection camp was held at GSBS Medical Trust’s Health Rakshak centre. This 5th Annual camp has a special significance. Thanks to the children of Late Dr. V. R. Prabhu, the Founder Trustee of the Medical Trust, who had given a mandate that this Women’s Cancer detection Camp has to be an Annual feature. GSBS Medical Trust holds these camps for women every alternate month, towards the detection & awareness of Breast Cancer, Oral Cancer and Cervical Cancer.

On the 14th of July, as planned in advance, 24 patients registered for the camp. It started at 8:30 in the morning and got over by 4.00 pm. Each patient had to pass 4 stages. Dentists do the full oral check-up and then the Gynecologist does breast checkup and Pap smear. The final stage is to do the Mammography of the patient and if the doctor has a doubt, sono-mammography of the patient is done.

The following doctors attended the patients: Dentists Dr. Shalini Rupnarayan, Dr. Swati Satpute and Dr. Pratik Satpute, Gynaecologists Dr. Mira Naik, Dr. Gitanjali Belekar and Dr. Bhagyashree. During the course of the camp, the patient is given awareness and more information about Breast Cancer as many ladies are becoming victim of this cancer.

It was heartening to see Mr. Jagannath Prabhu and his sister Ms. Sushma Shenai who could visit the camp site and meet the patients. Mr. Prabhu highly admired the work done at the centre. His presence was appreciated by all the office staff members. Smt. Gita R. Pai, Trustee thanked both of them profusely and also remembered the old days of building up the GSBS Medical Trust.
