Report of the 1st Diabetes Camp conducted at GSBS Medical Trust

This year, GSBS Medical Trust strengthened its resolve to make healthcare more accessible by planning to conduct more kinds of medical camps, awareness activities along with addition of new equipment and facilities. One such awareness & detection camp for Diabetes was conducted at the beginning of the year.

As diabetes is on the rise both nationally and globally, on World Diabetes Day late last year, the Trust felt a need to organise a camp for awareness and detection purposes. This camp was was conducted on 1st January, 2022 and was sponsored by Trustee Mr. B. T. Mallya in memory of his wife Mrs. Pratima T. Mallya.

A total of 50 patients had registered for this camp and the following tests were done:

  • Fasting Sugar
  • HbA1c
  • TSH
  • Physician Checkup (Consultation)
  • Dietician Advice

The analysis of this camp was that out of 50 patients, 18 patients were newly diagnosed with chronic diabetes with the HbA1c score above 7.0. The follow-up to this camp will be to have a retinopathy test done on these 18 patients because diabetes is known to cause eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, macular edema (which usually develops along with diabetic retinopathy), cataracts and glaucoma.

We are grateful to Mr. B. T. Mallya (Trustee – GSBS Medical Trust) for sponsoring this camp which proved to be beneficial for many patients.

For future such camps, please check our website and/or follow us on our social media pages.
