EEG (Electroencephalogram) - GSBS Medical Trust Mumbai
An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a medical test that is used to measure the electrical activity of the brain.
Why is it done?
EEG can help diagnose a number of conditions including epilepsy, sleep disorders and brain tumours. An EEG test may also be recommended after a severe head injury in order to analyse and evaluate brain activity.
How is it done?
During the procedure, electrodes consisting of small metal discs with thin wires are pasted onto your scalp. Your brain cells communicate via electrical impulses and are active all the time, even when you're asleep. This activity shows up as wavy lines on an EEG recording. It is a pain-free procedure.

2) Doctor’s prescription
What you need to do:
1) Schedule your appointment in advance from the Centre.

3) Patients can eat food before the test.
Preparation:
1) Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment .
2) Wash your hair the night before or the day of the test, but don’t use any conditioners, hair creams, sprays or styling gels. Hair products can make it harder for the sticky patches that hold the electrodes to adhere to your scalp.
3) Avoid anything with caffeine on the day of the test, because caffeine can affect the test results.
4) Take your usual medications unless instructed otherwise.
5) If you’re supposed to sleep during your EEG test, your doctor may ask you to sleep less or even avoid sleep entirely the night before your EEG.
