Why is it done?
Sonography is useful for evaluating the size, shape, and density of tissues to help diagnose certain medical conditions.
In lay man's terms, it can be said that it is used to look inside the abdomen without having to cut it open. Abdominal ultrasound, in particular, is often used to diagnose gallbladder disease or gallstones, kidney disease or kidney stones, liver disease, appendicitis, ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancies, fibroid or uterine growths and other conditions.
A sonogram is most commonly used is to monitor the development of the uterus and fetus during pregnancy. It can also be used to evaluate glands, breast lumps, joint conditions, bone disease, testicular lumps or to guide needles during biopsies.
What you need to do:
1) Fix your appointment in advance from centre.
2) Kindly carry all patients’ case papers and reports.
3) Kindly confirm your appointment before visit.
4) Kindly carry the doctor's prescription.
5) Do not eat before your test.
6) Drink 1.3 litres of fresh water before the test.
7) A responsible relative or guardian should accompany the patient in case of fasting as there may be chances of fainting.
8) Avoid going to the washroom until you are done with the test.
9) If your examination is in the afternoon, you may have some dry toast and a small amount of water, black coffee or tea (no milk/cream) in the morning .
10) For USG of Full Abdomen, Pelvis, Renal Doppler, patients must be fasting prior to the test.
11) For USG KUB drink 1.3 litres of fresh water one hour before the test. Do not pass urine till you are done with the test.

Your report will be made available between 4:30 and 6.30 p.m.
