An audiogram is a graph showing the results of a pure-tone hearing test. It shows how loud sounds need to be at different frequencies for an individual to hear them.

An audiogram shows the type, degree, and configuration of hearing loss. It is the result of an audiometry test.

Why is it done?

An audiometric exam tests how well your hearing functions. It tests intensity, tone of sounds, balance and other issues related to the functioning of the inner ear.

Who needs it?

Someone facing hearing problems or people who have a tumor in or around the ear may undergo audiometry testing to determine whether hearing loss has occurred or to even monitor their hearing before and after surgery.
