G.S.B.S MEDICAL TRUST (G.S.B. Sabha’s Medical Trust) is an organisation that provides quality and affordable healthcare through its four medical centres – two in Dadar, one in Dharavi and one in Mahim.
What started as a health awareness centre in 1967 has rapidly grown manifold. The four centres are now visited by over 200 consultants with post-graduate and post-doctoral speciality qualifications in various branches of medicine. Besides consultation, the centres offer diagnostic investigations, medical treatment, dental services, dermatological consultation, nutritional consultation, physiotherapy & rehabilitation as well as de-addiction programmes.
On an average day, over 300 patients visit the centres for various consultations with doctors and/or undergo various medical tests.
Our Trustees - the driving force behind it all.
The GSBS Medical Trust was born out of the parent body, Gowd Saraswat Brahman Sabha, Matunga (Mumbai). Initially, a few prominent doctors and well-wishers of the community got together and started a health awareness centre and a medical service wing of the Sabha in 1967.
Later, immunisation services to children below the age of 5 years was added. Gradually, this was shifted to Dwarkanath Mutt, Wadala for the sake of convenience and for better availability of space. GSBS Trust is ever grateful to the then Smd Dwarkanath Thirth Swamiji of Shree Gokarn Parthagali Jeevottam Mutt for generously accommodating this activity at the premises of Dwarkanath Bhavan free of cost.
The popularity of the programs prompted the founding team to look for a bigger place to continue these activities and add more medical services.
The pioneering group of founding Trustees viz. Dr. A.P. Pai, Dr. V.R. Prabhu, Dr. K.V. Pai, Dr. B.M. Acharya, Mr. A.M. Kamath, Mr. K.K. Kamath, Mr. H. Anandrao and Mr. N.K. Gaitonde were full of verve and vigour to push the project forward on its path of success. The diagnostic services had to be of the highest quality and this necessitated empanelment of qualified & experienced consultants from almost all branches of medicine.
The trust decided to have its own property & decided to have its own premises at Shilpa Apartments, Dasturwadi in Dadar. It has since gone on and never looked back. The initial years of operation also encouraged many liberal minded individuals to lend their helping hand. Sizeable donations poured in at the right junctures and helped the Trust to equip many of its departments with modern machines.
The second unit at ‘Rajhans’ 1st floor, Dadar Station Road East designed as a superspeciality centre was inaugurated on 6th January 2002 by Shri. Suresh Prabhu, MP, a Central Govt. Minister. This unit was planned to reflect the commitment of the trust to be abreast with the fast moving technologies.
A third unit in Subhaschandra Bose Co-operative Society at Dharavi was started in 31st March 2006, to expand the reach to the residents of Dharavi.
GSBS Medical Trust in association with Jehangir Nasserwanji Wadia Trust further expanded to provide affordable medical services at the J. N. Wadia Dispensary (also known as GSBS Mahim Centre).
